Kilmartin Glen is home to one of Scotland’s richest prehistoric landscapes. An area of international archaeological importance, Kilmartin Glen has the densest mainland concentration of Neolithic and Bronze Age monuments in Scotland. Packed with standing stones, stone circles, burial cairns, rock art, forts, carved stones and ruined castles that tell the story of the people who shaped Scotland. Bury yourself in history with over 600 ancient sites within a six-mile radius of Kilmartin Museum. Stand where the first Kings of Scotland were crowned at Dunadd Fort and look out over the dramatic landscape that includes peat bogs, Celtic rainforests and extraordinary wildlife.
Opening in 2023, the newly redeveloped Kilmartin Museum has an interactive exhibition of stunning artefacts and interpretation that takes you on a journey through 12,000 years of archaeology, a refurbished café serving the best fresh local produce; guided walks exploring the prehistoric monuments of Kilmartin Glen; and a new gift shop selling carefully curated books, gifts and local artisan crafts as well as museum merchandise.

Situated at the heart of this internationally important landscape on the west coast of Scotland, Kilmartin Museum cares for ancient artefacts from across Argyll. In 2019, just over half of the 22,000 artefacts in our care were awarded Nationally Significant status by Museums Galleries Scotland and an independent panel of experts.
